The Christian Vote is a national initiative by Christian Democracy UK dedicated to identifying and highlighting candidates for public office who embody Christian democratic principles and will faithfully represent the interests and conscience of British Christians in civic life. Born from the conviction that thoughtful and constructive voices should shape public life in a pluralist society, The Christian Vote seeks to ensure that traditional Christian perspectives on human dignity, the common good, the traditional family, economic justice and stewardship are present in Britain’s public institutions.
Our purposes and principles include:
Representation: Ensure that Christian values have clear, reliable advocacy and a voice in local and national government.
Values-driven endorsement: To support candidates whose policies and conduct demonstrably align with Christian democratic values: respect for life, social justice, care for the vulnerable, the flourishing of families and communities, responsible stewardship of creation, and faithfulness to democratic institutions and the rule of law.
Plurality and civility: To operate within the democratic framework of the United Kingdom, promoting respectful engagement with other faith communities and secular perspectives while defending the rights and religious freedoms of Christians.
Non-partisan assessment: To assess candidates on the basis of principles and policy alignment rather than party affiliation, endorsing those who best represent Christian democratic convictions and will work constructively across party lines.
In a plural society where other faith communities have organised efforts to ensure their interests are represented, The Christian Vote provides a principled, organised means of participating in the democratic process. It affirms the legitimacy of bringing convictions into public debate, while upholding the common good, democratic pluralism and mutual respect.
The Christian Vote will operate chiefly through a clear, public pledge and scorecard system: candidates will be invited to commit to a concise list of Christian Democracy UK policies that we regard as core to a flourishing society today, their answers recorded and published verbatim, and their subsequent voting and public actions tracked against those commitments to produce an accessible score for voters. This approach places accountability at the heart of civic choice, enabling electors to compare pledges with performance, press representatives to honour their word, and the movement to elevate candidates who consistently uphold principles for the greater common good.
The Christian Vote invites those who seek communitarian civic engagement to take part; by learning and voting in line with Christian democratic principles. Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, this is where bold thinking meets thoughtful execution. Let us create something meaningful together.
